Left pre 1960 .  

Professor Adrian Long ( 1952-59 ) awarded the OBE in New Year’s honours list for his services to Higher Education and to Engineering .  A former Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Q.U.B. and a past president of the Institute of Civil Engineers .  Presently a member of the Board of Governors of RSD .

Ken Burnett recently retired after a successful career laying specialised airfield surfaces .  He has worked in the Falkland islands , the Balkans and outer Mongolia and now lives in Newcastle , Co.Down

David Wells (1951-59) has retired as 1STXV coach at Methodist college after 28 years of unparalleled success, he will continue to coach at a lower level** .

 

Left 1960-1969 . 

Dennis Johnston ( 1953-60) has retired as principal of Lurgan College, Dennis was formerly a chemistry teacher in RSD and Head of Chemistry in Portadown College, before moving to Lurgan**

Edmund Curran ( 1956-62) has been awarded the OBE in the Queen’s Birthday honours list for his contribution to journalism .  Edmund is editorin -chief of News and Media ( NI).  He is a former editor of the Belfast telegraph and Sunday Life .

Dr Ivan Pollock ( 1959-66) has retired as Headmaster of Campbell College after eighteen years in charge**

Judith Eve (Steele) (DHS 1960-67) was awarded a CBE for her contribution to public service in Northern Ireland. She was employed by Queen’s University of the until 2002 as a legal academic and then international liaison officer. She was (is) chairperson of the Civil Service Commissioners for Northern Ireland. Judith was Head Girl in DHS 1966-67**

Raymond Armstrong (1961-1968) is a Senior Consultant in Rheumatology in Southampton General Hospital and has a family of six. 

Patrick McKee ( 1961-68 ) living in Ryhall, Rutland Married with two boys in their twenties .  Paddy has been Vicar at Ryhall, W.Essendine and Carlby since January, 1997
 

Left 1970-1979 . 

Dr. Brian Dunn ( 1963-70) is chairman of the BMA’s G.P.’s. committee .  A G.P. in Larne , Brian was attending a meeting of the BMA in London last July and was on hand to assist the injured when a bomb went off near by .

Rev. Norman Cardwell (1964-71) has been appointed to the Methodist church in Bandon, Co.Cork**

Alan Cromie ( 1968-71) has been working on a Foreign Office contract as an international police adviser in Southern Iraq .

Eithne Wallis (Walsh) (DHS 1964-71) was made a CB for outstanding service to the National Probation Service of England and Wales. Eithne was Head Girl of DHS in 1970-71

Garnett Mullen ( 1966 -73) is Headmaster of Newtonhamilton High School .

Richard Ian Boston (1967-75) visited RSD in the June with his daughter. A trained geologist who has worked throughout the world he has now settled in Texas with his wife Anne who works for American Airlines. He spoke of his brothers Alan and Michael (both former pupils of RSD). Michael is a zoologist who runs an Eco-tour business in Costa Rica**

Aubrey Irwin (1967-75) is working with Tourism Ireland in Coleraine**  

Stephen Hill (1969-76) is still teaching in Castlederg High School**

Alistair McLean ( 1971-78) is the chief executive of the Greyhound Association .

Dr Jennifer Paisley (DHS ) a partner in the Northland Surgery was the winner of the Royal College of General Practitioners (N.I. Council ) Patient Award for Quality Patient Care

Trevor Robinson ( 1973-80) succeeded Dennis Johnson as Headmaster of Lurgan College**

Khalid Moursy
in Poland for 6 years now and a Director of Studies and Teacher Trainer, at the moment working with children and Telematic Applications Supporting Cognition. Khalid is getting married on August 30th this year to a Pole, enjoying life and keep in touch with some of the guys from school

Sam Moursy works in Kinsale as a process Engineer. Sam and Khalid were boarders at RSD IN 1980's

Andrew McNamee ( 1997-84) employed in risk management in NHS hospitals, has gone to work in Paris after several years in Glasgow**

Patrick Marsh is employed as a researcher in the House of Commons at Westminster.

Colin Crooks ( 1980-87) is first Secretary for Asian Affairs at the British Embassy in Washington**

Michael McNamee (1980-87) is joint presenter of BBC Ulster’s ‘ The Summer Club‘ he received a Bronze Sony Award at the Sony Radio Academy Awards Ceremony in London .  Michael shared the BBC 2 commentary box with Graham Gooch at the recent international cricket match between Ireland and England at Stormont

Ruth Maxwell (Brady) (DHS, RSD 1986 – 89) is teaching Economics and Mathematics in Portora Royal School

Alastair Gillespie(1981-88) is a partner in Hill Dickinson and works in Liverpool

Jamie Campbell ( 1984-91) is working in London as a Computer Programmer and studying for an M.Sc in creative electronics**

Ian Gilpin ( 1984-91) is employed by Kestrel Thermoplastics in Kilrea , he is Laboratory Manager and was interviewed on BBC Newsline

Gordon Kyle ( 1984-91) is a partner in a new Estate Agent and Property Developer business in Church Street, Dungannon

Lisa Beggs (DHS , RSD 1986 -92) is lecturing in Economics and Business Studies in Stranmillis University College

Jonathan Birnie ( 1985-92) worked in York as policy adviser for the NFUHe has now returned with his wife and family to be Agriculture Research Manager for Dungannon Meats**

Julie -Anne Hazlett (DHS , RSD 1986 -92) has been living in Australia for the past nine years .  She is based in Sydney and is Asia -Pacific manager for Workforce Optimization Software.

Darren Graham ( 1990-95) obtained a Ph.D. from the university of Edinburgh in mathematics and is at present employed by KPMG International

Heather Gillespie( 1988-95 ) has just completed a degree in medicine at QUB and is working in the Mater Hospital, Belfast .  Heather completed a Ph.D. in oncology in 2001

Leah Nicholl ( Marsh ) ( 1988-95 ) is teaching biology in Belfast Royal Academy

Christopher Edgar ( 1989-96) is an Internal Auditor with Barclays Bank in London**

Timothy Gibson (1989-96) works for Morgan Stanley in London and is moving to their Amsterdam office for two years .

Karen Hunter( 1989-96) an Occupational Therapist , worked in Scotland and is now in the Royal Victoria Hospital .

Heather Wilson(1989-96) is the proprietor of Krafty Kards in Church Street, Dungannon – she designs her own cards for all occasions

Sharon Spence(1989-96) is working as a podiatrist In Lisburn Health Clinic**

Rachel Brennan (1990-97) is teaching RE in a school in Sheffield and attending Japanese classes

Charlotte Brennan (1990-97) gained an M.Sc and is at present a Department Manager in Menary’s , Dungannon

Aubrey Davidson ( 1990-97) has taken up a post with Site Analytical Services, London**

Kris Meeke ( 1990-97) continues to be extremely successful as an international rally driver**.

Alastair Patterson(1990-97) is a Housemaster in Dilworth School , Auckland .  He was married there in February, 2006 .  Many RSD former pupils were present .  Best man was Denver Smith ( 1990-97 ) whose wife Sarah ( Marsh ) ( 1990-97 ) was also there .  Alastair’s brother Glenn ( 1987-94 ) was groomsman and John Gamble ( 1997-87 ) was an usher .

Gareth Watson(1992-97) is working in Belfast for a computer firm , Coresystems                   

Dr.Lisa Lamont ( 1990-97 ) has taken up a position as Assistant Professor in the Petroleum Institute in Abu Dhabi .

Janice Sharkey owns Panache Shoes in the Linen Green, Dungannon

Jane Wilson ( 1990-97) is teaching English in a school in Middlesbrough

Stephen Beattie ( 1992-97) is working in a dental practice in Edinburgh

Anna Beattie ( 1990-97 ) is studying for a Ph.D. in Edinburgh

Andrew Parkhill ( 1992-99)  , Allan Buchanan ( 1990 97 ) and David Suitor ( 1989-96) were involved in the production of the award winning films ‘Shadow and Morton’s Fork’ .  These films were developed under the auspices of Project Norma , a scheme which provides aspiring filmmakers with the opportunity to write, direct and produce a no budget ten minute short film .

Jonny Edgar ( 1991-98) is spending a year teaching English in South Korea**

Gemma Dalzell( 1991-98) is a dentist in Edinburgh and her sister Lucy ( 1992-1999) a doctor also in Edinburgh**

Tanya Gates ( 1991-98) works in the same Dental Practice as Jill Black in Draperstown

Lisa Hobson( 1991-98) is employed as a physiotherapist at the Royal Victoria Hospital .

Daniel Henning(1993-98) is an orthopaedic surgeon with the Royal Navy in Portsmouth , and will soon see duty in the Falkland Islands .  Daniel has received the Oliver Sword for showing , within his first three years -leadership, determination, courage and compassion during training and early appointments .  He provided medical support to HMS Argyll during deployment in the gulf .

Roy Peake ( 1991-98 ) completed a Ph.D. in biomedical sciences at QUB and is now training as a Clinical Scientist in Wishaw Hospital , near Glasgow

Peter Birnie ( 1992-99) is teaching mathematics in Hull

Kyle Black (1992-99) is working as a veterinary surgeon in Shropshire .

Jonathan Dobson( 1992-1999) is teaching sciences in Enfield, North London

Alan Hall ( 1992-99) is a graphic designer with UTV**

Lyndsay Patterson ( 1992-99) studying for a Ph.D. in Marine Biology at QUB has made several international appearances for the Northern Ireland Woman’s football squad with which she has been involved since its inauguration three years ago .

Patrick Harkness (1992-99) is completing a Ph.D. at Cranfield University on ‘ orbiting space debris ‘ .  He recently attended the International Symposium on Space Technology And Science in Japan , chaired one of the sessions and presented a report on his research .

Lawrence Ng a former boarder was married in Hong Kong in October 2005 Lawrence has a 1st class honours degree in engineering from Salford university and is assistant manager for a large engineering firm in Hong Kong .

Ben Preston ( 1998 -2003) has been reelected president of Queens Student Union for a second year and is at present on all expenses paid trip to the United States to study the U.S. political system

David Pollock ( 1998-2005) signed a two year contract with Ulster and was named Vodafone Ulster Young Player of the Year captained the Ireland U19 rugby team which competed in the World Cup tournament  in Dubai .  He has been selected to captain the Ireland U21 team in the IRB U21 world championships .

Anne Barrett (Anne Patton) is Oral Health Dietician for the Southern Health and Social Services Board promoting the links between nutrition and oral health in the under 5 years old.

Caroline Bartley, married to Denver Brown is Deputy Editor of the Tyrone Times.

Darren Clarke was named Ulster Sports Personality of the year and was runner-up in the BBC Sports Personality.  He also was awarded an honorary degree from QUB for services to golf.

Judith Curran (D.H.S.) is a consultant psychiatrist in Craigavon Area Hospital.

Victoria Graham is teaching in a temporary post in Killyman Primary School.And if

Andrew Agnew and his wife Carol were the speakers at Dungannon Presbyterian Church during their furlough from their ministry in Mexico.

Congratulations and best wishes to Valerie Campbell (Bleakley D.H.S.) who has been appointed by the Department of Education to a post as Inspector for Primary Education.  Valerie has been the very successful Principal of the Howard Primary School for the last 8 years.

Denise Edwards (Denise McAlister) is working as an Optician in Mackie's , Portadown.  Her husband Brian Edwards is working nearby in Meteor Systems 

Peter Finlay is working as a quantity surveyor with the firm of Rainey & best in Portadown.

Louise Gallagher was awarded a Travelling Churchill Scholarship which enabled her to travel to New Zealand and Australia to coach and gain leadership skills in badminton.  As a result of this, she later received a Silver medallion from the Queen at Buckingham Palace.

Philip Hall is President of the Belfast Medical Students Association at QUB.

Mark Halliday is a Chartered Surveyor with Belfast City Council.

Congratulations to Mrs Florence Ferry (Florence Hall, D.H.S.), a community relations officer who has been awarded an M.B.E. for public service.

Cathy Hewitt, after completing a P.G.C.E. in Plymouth, is teaching R.E. and French in the Dilworth School, Auckland.

Congratulations to Dr. Carol Martin (Carol Hobson D.H.S.) who was recently presented with the M.B.E. for services to Medicine and Healthcare.  Carol is the daughter of the late Dr. Eric Hobson M.B.E. and sister of Lyn and Evan.  Carol has lived and worked in London for many years.

Simon Kells has qualified as a Captain with Easyjet.  He is based at Aldergrove and operates on domestic and international flights.

Gerry Martin is proprietor of the Hillside Restaurant in Hillsborough.

Having completed his Theological studies Ian Magowan, former Head of Art and Design in Drumglass High School, is shortly moving to Coleraine where he has been appointed curate assistant in Killowen Parish Church. We wish him all the best in his new career.

Rodney McKirgan, who formerly worked for Nationwide is now in charge of mortgages with Halifax, Bank of Scotland.  His areas of operation are, Northern Ireland, Scotland and the North-East of England.

Sam Moursey is working in Kinsale as a Process Engineer. His brother, Khaled is living in Poland and working as a Director of Studies and Teacher Trainer.

Laura Murphy has just taken up a post as a journalist with the Belfast News Letter.

Johnny Orr is a Team Leader with Morse Computer systems in London.

In the finalist’s category of the Dungannon Sports Personality 2006 Awards, Lynsey Patterson was presented with an award for her contribution to Ladies Football.

David Pollock’s rugby career is continuing to flourish.  He captained the Ireland Under 20’s side during the year to an unprecedented Grand Slam and Six Nations Championship.

At the recent Guinness Rugby Awards David Pollock was named Vodaphone Ulster Young Player of the Year. He recently signed a two year contract with Ulster. The Kukri, Club of the Year award went to Dungannon and the captain of the Stevenson Park club, Paul Magee, won the First Trust Club Player of the Year. 

Claire McKee (Redpath) continues her hockey success with the award-winning Pegasus team.  In her professional life Claire has moved from Grafton Recruitment to be a Human Resources consultant with Clarendon Executive.

David Richardson is Horticultural Manager with the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, based near Arras in France.

Katie Scarlett has opened a new Organic Foods shop, DOWN-TO-EARTH in the Linen Green, Moygashel.

Nigel Scott proprietor of Viscounts Restaurant will feature in a UTV programme to be broadcast in the autumn which features the top 10 places to eat in Northern Ireland.

Carrie Shaw (Devlin) lectures in Design Manufacturing and Engineering Management in Strathclyde University.  One of her students was her brother Adam Devlin.

Claire Shiells, now based in London, is editor of Food and Travel magazine.

Andrew Stewart is a Flying Officer in the R.A.F.  His older brother Jonathan (R.J.), married to the former Penny Suitor (D.H.S.) is on the teaching staff of Portora Royal School.

Alan Stevens (Head Boy 1986-87), formerly Head of History in Campbell College, Belfast, has since September 2006, been Deputy Head in Trent College a public school, near Nottingham.  His wife Heather (Milligan), a solicitor who was Director of Education and Training in N.I. Civil Service has been granted 5 years leave of absence from her post.  The couple have a 5 year old son, Jamie.

Christopher Williamson is working in a dental practice in Cavan.

David Williamson father of Keith, Christopher and Claire is the current President of Aughnacloy Golf Club.  The new club captain is David Cullen.

Iris Reid (Wylie) is a child psychiatrist with the Southern Area Board.  Her sister Ann Wylie is a paediatrician in Dundee.

 

                 

FORMER PUPILS’ NEWS 2008 UPDATE

Darren Kirkland is at present teaching in Kingspark Primary School, Lurgan.

Recent former pupils, Simon Jenkinson and Grace Cuddy are embarking on a church mission to South Africa.  They are taking part in a mission project of the Presbyterian Chaplaincy of Q.U.B. where Grace is studying medicine and Simon accountancy.

Lloyd Griffiths has opened his own optometry practice in Elgin, Morayshire.  His sister Rhonda has returned to live in Dungannon and is teaching part-time in Dungannon Primary School.

Stuart Henderson is an Accountant with Powerscreen.  His brother Philip a paediatrician is working in Australia.

Congratulations and best wishes to Rodney McKirgan who has set up his own mortgage business, Mortgage Angels, in Northland Row, Dungannon.  Rodney was formerly Mortgage Manager with nationwide and HBOS.

Roland Watt has been teaching R.E. in Omagh Academy.

Trudi Reid (Lee) has been appointed to the responsible position of Nurse in charge of infection Control in Craigavon Area Hospital.  Her sister Trina, married to Alan Reid, teaches Science in Coleraine Inst.

Lynsey Patterson is an Epidemiologist in Belfast City Hospital.  Her sister Zoe is a solicitor with McAlpines in Dungannon.

Keith McManus, a partner in the Belfast Accountancy firm of McGuire and Farry has been elected President of the N.I. ACCA Network for a two year term.

Peter Allen is living in Inverness where he is employed in the Scottish Tourist Board.

Claire Robinson is working as a graduate surveyor with Warner Estates in Liverpool.  In her final year there studying Real Estate Management, Claire was awarded Sports Personality of the Year, which will not surprise those who remember her hockey prowess at school.

Lynne Holmes has taken up her first teaching post in Cookstown Primary School.

Barry Hall has joined the Staff of Aughnacloy College, teaching Geography.

Sammy Simpson a recent Dilworth Tutor in Auckland is returning to New Zealand to do a placement as part of his Civil Engineering course at Q.U.B.  He will work with the District Council near Hamilton.

Karen Moffett (Duncan) D.H.S. a former nurse is Outpatient Manager at Fitzwilliam Cosmetic Surgery Clinic in Belfast.

Judith McMinn is at present working with Accenture in Newcastle-on-Tyne as a Senior Management consultant.  Her younger sister Alison is a Registrar at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley.  Chris Peyton is a doctor in the same hospital and both ALISON and CHRIS hope to specialise in Surgery.

Sapphire Patterson-Zitouni is working as an Occupational Therapist at Southampton General Hospital.  She is also writing for a magazine, interviewing pop groups and has recently completed her Masters degree in Music.

Mark Edgar is Biodiversity Officer with Dungannon District Council.

Congratulations to Alan Burke former Environmental Health Officer with Dungannon District Council who is at present acting Chief Executive.

Andrew Parkhill is going to Leeds, University in September to do a course of study for a Master’s degree in Film Writing.

Joanne Graham has been made a partner in Boltburden’s solicitors in Islington, London.

Darren Clarke's many fans were delighted when he won the Asian Open Golf Tournament in Shanghai in April.  We wish him good luck and many more wins in the future.

Kerry McCarter is now teaching Science in Campbell College, Belfast after teaching temporarily for a year in St. Patrick’s Academy, Dungannon.

Adrian Brodison is a heart surgeon in Lancaster.  His brother Nigel is a vet in Larne.  Nigel is married to Rachel (Gamble).

Congratulations to Sarah McMillan who with her husband, is returning from America where she has been working as a solicitor, to take up a post as Law Lecturer in the University of Aberdeen where she studied.  Her boss in the Faculty of Law will be R.S.D. Old Boy Professor Roderick Paisley who was guest of Honour at last year’s Speech Day.  Sarah’s brother Angus McMillan is working in Glasgow with Energy Watch, a government sponsored consumer service.

Amanda Cullen has taken up employment with the Accountancy firm of Kennedy and Johnston in Belfast.

Gareth McMullan has opened his own Podiatry practice “Happy Feet” in Thomas Street, Dungannon.  We wish him much success in this new venture.

Once again, BTW Shiells whose Managing Director is Keith Shiells, has been the Winner of the Property Deal of the Year.  His firm has now merged with the Eric Cairn’s Partnership.

As a result of participating in the Great North Run in Newcastle-on-Tyne in September 2007, Melvin Hetherington was able to present cheques to MacMillan Cancer Support and leukaemia Research.  Well done Melvin!

Alison Burnside has been appointed a Director of FPM Accountants at their newly expanded Dungannon Office.

Philip Hall son of former RSD pupils Rev. Kenny and Stephanie Hall (Kerr) undertook, as part of his medical studies, a six-week elective in Nairobi, an area at the centre of violence and upheaval.  He raised money towards providing a much needed ambulance and X ray machine.

Dean Burnside a Design Engineer and Malcolm Spence, a Mechanical Engineer have joined Powerscreen International in Dungannon.

David Pollock was named Vodafone Ulster Young Player of the Year at the 2007 Guinness Rugby Awards.  David captained Ireland Under 20s to the Grand Slam title.  Dungannon Captain Paul Magee won the First Trust Club Player of the Year.

Allen Clarke, former Ulster Assistant Coach has left Ravenhill after almost three years to take over as manager of the IRFU Elite Player programme.  This is more of an organisational role than his former post.

David Parkhill is The Youth Development Officer at Dungannon Rugby Club.

Andrew Hughes has been appointed Coach of Armagh Rugby Club for the incoming season.

Nigel Brady has been part of the Ulster Rugby squad this season and has been given a further two year contract.

Joel Kerr is a Graphic Designer with Charles Hurst Motors in Belfast.  His sister Judith is a physiotherapist in Omagh.

Former D.H.S. pupil Jennifer Irwin (McCrea) was named the N.I. ITV Carer of the Year in 2007.  Jenny has four children who suffer from a rare genetic condition of the nervous system.  She has also been one of the key people involved in setting up a Children’s Hospice Support Group.

Rev. Norman Cardwell who formerly ministered in Irvinestown and Cork is now in charge of Bessbrook Methodist Church.  He is also Superintendent of the Newry Methodist Circuit.  He was welcomed by the Rev. Dr. David Clements, himself an Old Boy of RSD and Chaplain in the Boarding Department.  DR. Clements has now moved from Dungannon to become minister in Edenderry Methodist Church, Portadown.

Desmond Morrow a Phd. Pharmacy Student from Q.U.B., working with two doctors has helped come up with a revolutionary way of treating skin cancer patients – photodynamic therapy.

Waqar Ahmed has joined the Campbell Medical Practice in Dungannon, as a G.P. succeeding his father who has retired.  His sister Aasia is a doctor in Nottingham and Sazia, his younger sister is a Pharmacist in Glasgow.

Heather(Millar) and Alan Stevens (Deputy Head Girl and Head Boy RSD 1986-87) recently spent a year at Yale University.  Heather, a Law graduate, won a World Fellowship to study global issues and possible solutions.  Alan did research into child behaviour management strategies.  Currently, Alan is assistant Headmaster at Trent College, Nottingham, having formerly been Head of History at Campbell College, Belfast. 

Congratulations to the following former members of RSD teaching staff who have achieved fame and possibly fortune since leaving RSD. 

Well-known botanist Ronnie Irvine who, in addition to being a regular contributor to Radio Ulster’s “Your Place and Mine” was featured on BBC1 TV recently.  In the programme “Off the Beaten Track” he led reporter Darryl Grimason on a walk along the North Coast from Dunseverick Castle to Port Bradden, giving a very able commentary on the way.

Mrs. Isobel Holmes M.B.E. was honoured by being chosen as one of the recipients of the Maundy money distributed by the Queen in Armagh in March 2007.

Dr. James Napier has recently had a book published -  Teach Yourself Genetics .  He already has several biology text books to his credit.

A former pupil Keith Johnston who studies at the university of Ulster has been awarded a prize for excellent academic performance, the Alummi Fund Academic Excellence Award. This award is made annually to the student who has achieved the best overall academic performance in each of the University’s five faculties.

Rev. Paddy McKee enjoyed his recent visit to RSD where he addressed the sixth form assembly. He commented on how he received a warm welcome, and took pleasure in reminiscing of his happy times as a pupil in RSD during a tour of our new building.
